Obituary for Agnes Olive McIntosh (Ulmer)

Agnes Olive McIntosh (Ulmer)
McINTOSH: Agnes Olive (nee Ulmer)

Nov 9, 1917 – Oct. 28, 2015

Agnes Olive was born November 9, 1917, the youngest daughter of Wilhelm and Katherine Ulmer of Guernsey, SK. She had older siblings Lydia, Louise, Jean, Marie, Leo, Oscar, Fred, Bob, Art, and two younger brothers, Eddie and Harry. Agnes had many fond memories growing up in a large but close-knit family with much teasing and laughter and a love of music and art. Agnes attended school in the Flanderdale district where she caught the eye of her future husband, Robert (Bob) McIntosh. They began a long-distance courtship during Bob’s years at sea with the Merchant Marine during WWII, and she treasured the gifts he sent to her from locales all over the world. Agnes and Robert were married on June 30, 1948 and spent sixty-two loving years as the very best of friends. (An amusing source of contention, though, was their inability to agree on the setting of the thermostat.) They farmed and gardened together and often took afternoon drives on country roads, frequenting nearby towns for a piece of pie. Agnes dearly loved all children, but especially her own, and after raising their own daughter Karen, and son Francis (Doc), she and Bob were delighted to have ten grandchildren who grew up on nearby farms. Twenty-one great-grandchildren continually added to her joy over the years, and “Grandma Mac’s” heart grew ever larger as she had more family to love. Agnes’ devotion to her family and her Lord and Saviour, could never be doubted, and every family member knew that she humbly and fervently prayed for each one of them daily. The simple, sweet and uninhibited appreciation that Agnes had for the little things in life, like sunsets, birds and flowers, and her kind and loving spirit is a legacy that will be carried on by her family.

Agnes was predeceased by her husband Robert, her daughter Karen, and her grandson Klay. She was also the last surviving member of her own immediate family. She leaves to mourn her son Francis (Linda) and their children and families: Melissa (Kreig) Ashlee, Carter, Benjamin, Roxanne (Bryn) Vienna and Mark, as well as her son-in-law Evan Gullacher and his children Kristy (Duane) Lexi, Kelsey, Alyssa, Kathy (Jed) Jody, Miles, Juanita, Kandi (Darren) Myanna, Justice, Elodie, Korrie (Jeff) Parker, Matraca, Cece, Maelie, Kelly (Sara) Choc, Jayda, Kade, Jake and Kent (Kendra) Gullacher.
